Writing

Yolanda studied screenwriting at Ryerson University and U.C.L.A. and has studied a plethora of books on the subject.  An avid fan of romantic comedies and relationship dramas, this is her power genre.  In addition to having written professionally for television, radio and the Internet, she has had several articles published in major newspapers.

After producing a crowd-pleasing one-act play at the Toronto Fringe Festival, Yolanda left the security of her advertising career to pursue writing full-time.  Since then, Yolanda has written several scripts, produced a short film, had both of her original television series garner serious interest from a Toronto producer, landed a top Toronto agent, and was invited to teach writing for television at the Impatient Theatre Company.

Yolanda Beasley is represented by Carl Liberman of Characters Literary Agency.

A List of Completed Works:

The Search For Mr. Write

Political journalist and ‘heartless womanizer’, Mason Fredericks, pens an anonymous love letter, which lands the front page of a Boston tabloid, sparking a search for ‘the one’.

Background Milton

Background performer and chronic loser, Milton Bryce, is forced to confront what really happened that fateful day when, at the age of ten, Ryan Reynolds ‘stole his life’.

Private Eyes

New York theatre actress Avery Johnson stars in the revived ‘80s action-adventure series, PRIVATE EYES.  Despite the best efforts of the cantankerous writer-director team, the show is a massive hit, turning the spotlight on the private lives of the cast and crew.

FOREST HILL

When money rules, it’s easy to lose perspective on right and wrong.  In FOREST HILL, the moral corruption of an innocent young girl goes unnoticed even as she literally gets away with murder…or does she?

Paper Dollz

Paper Dollz is a parody of the banal blog user comments posted on gossip sites like TMZ or Perez Hilton.  I created a mini web-based show featuring cardboard cut-outs hosting a “View”-type talk show called “Gossip Girlz”, but the hosts say inane things about hot celebrity gossip of the day.   This is the pilot episode.  Read the script here: Paper Dollz Pilot Episode.

Six Months’ Flat

Three flatmates encounter an increasingly bizarre rotation of boarders over a period of six months.
