Masters of Romance Movie
I am producing a feature film that takes place and will be shot primarily in my hometown, Oshawa, Ontario.
Why Oshawa?
As a screenwriter I have had some traction with two original TV series and a feature film and then in 2014, I won the Durham Art of Transition Creative Award for a series of radio commercials I wrote, voiced and animated for the Whitby Chamber of Commerce and I decided to go the independent filmmaker route.
And while at the Chamber, I came to know some of the local business owners and understand the needs of the Durham Region, one of which is developing the local film industry. So I thought what better way to do that than to produce a small independent film that takes place in Durham?
A fan of Edward Burns, Richard Linklater, and Woody Allen style filmmaking, I saw the opportunity to produce an intimate portrait of the city famously known as ‘The Dirty ‘Shwa” featuring four characters who are scrambling to figure out their love lives.
Like these four characters, Oshawa is struggling with shedding its less-than-glamorous history in favour of something new and exciting. Hopefully, by casting a little romance on the city, this film will help to change the perception outsiders and residents alike have for this former “GM town”. (Not that we don’t love GM because we do.)
The Story: “Masters of Romance”
This film is a fun, fantasy romcom about four adults in their forties who can’t seem to get love right.
Former Oshawa high school sweethearts Krista and Alex rendezvous more than most, but never managed to get serious, so when they cross paths again twenty-five years later it seems fate is on their side, but the more they try to fix what’s wrong, the more they realize they may never make it work.
